In the year 2045, people can escape their harsh reality by entering an immersive virtual reality, called the “Oasis”. It’s not PS4 or the Xbox One, but an alternate world where the only limits are your own imagination. Sounds great, but much like the modern day internet, it is threatened by the total take-over of corporations. Kind of like Google, Apple, and yahoo but without the smart cars and the in-office nap bubbles.
The RT rating is 71%, with the professional critics more glib then the super critics and general audience reviews from real life humans and fans of Spielberg and 80’s nostalgia. The fans of Ernest Cline’s novel however are a bit more critical. “The book is always better”
Chrisanne Chin, a blogger super critic wrote ” Ready Player One is Spielberg Masterclass! I had a blast. Set in a dystopian future where people escape into an immersive virtual world, the film was surprisingly entertaining, yet thoughtful”
A very senior looking critic from “The Wall Street Journal” writes “Haptic’s weren’t needed to feel the emotional pull of his best films; they aimed for the heart and hit much more often than they missed. “Ready Player One” aims for the adrenal gland”
Yeah, that really sums it up.
Anyway, I’ll go with the middle of the road review: “A fun, imaginative take on Ernest Cline’s novel with flashes of colour and heart that rekindles a sense of childhood wonderment, but on the downside there is at times a suffocating abundance of digital imagery”.
When one mashes up the mainstream reviews of “Ready Player One” an apt critique emerges, and it’s not that bad.
