“Braven 2018” An Old School Action Flick

If Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger were providing top billing for over the top actions movies today, they both could of starred in “Braven”; A new film starring Jason Momoa. Braven is a 2018 Canadian action thriller film directed by Lin Oeding, about an everyday working man and logger who is dealing with real-life issues including an elderly father who is suffering from early on-set dementia and a wife who is quite deadly with a bow and arrow.

Braven decides to travel into the woods with his father to close down their cabin for the winter. Little do they know one of Braven’s inept employees has stashed some drugs  their. That’s when the fun starts, think, “Home Alone” meets “Saw”.

Of course, a psychotic yet disturbingly calm drug lord, Kassen, played by Garret Dillahunt, wants his drugs back. You might of seen Garret in  No Country for Old Men,  The Last House on the LeftWinter’s Bone, or Looper. He is true to form here and at 6 feet 4 inches a suitable match for Jason Momoa’s Braven.

2342191The action pits man against man, man against nature, and man against woman. Jason Momoa’s new film, Braven, could trace its origins to such throwbacks as “Rambo First Blood 1982 and Commando 1985, unwitting protagonists who have a history of violence and find themselves in extreme situations where they have nothing to rely on but their  survival instincts.

Momoa started his career as Ronon Dex on the military science fiction television series Star-gate Atlantis, he then went on to play Khal Drogo, a breakthrough role on GOT, which helped launch him to stardom. He is starring in the upcoming DCEU stand alone film “Aquaman”. One of the few highlights in the Justice League movie was Momoa’s Aquaman. Hopefully the upcoming film will be a stand-out in the struggling DC Cinematic Universe as well.

This film has plenty of suspense, violence, good old fashioned revenge and some satisfying death scenes. If you are a fan of old-school action flicks from the 1980’s and looking for a breezy 90 minutes then this is the film for you.
